TAMMUZ
– Fourth Month
Tammuz A corruption
of Dumuzi, the Accadian sun-god (the Adonis of the Greeks), the husband
of the
goddess Ishtar. In the Chaldean calendar there was a month set apart in
honour
of this god, the month of June to July, the beginning of the summer
solstice.
At this festival, which lasted six days, the worshippers, with loud
lamentations, bewailed the funeral of the god, they sat “weeping for

The
following are verses of unknown months in which to place them:
1
Samuel 20:27 And it came to pass on the
morrow, which was the second day of the month,
that David’s place was empty: and Saul said unto
Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat,
neither
yesterday, nor to day?
1
Samuel 20:34 So Jonathan arose from the
table in fierce
anger, and did eat no meat the second
day of the month:
for he was grieved for David, because his father had
done him shame.
1
Chronicles 27:4 And over the course of the
second month was
Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course was
Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were
twenty and four thousand.
Luke
1:36 And, behold, thy cousin
Elisabeth, she hath
also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month
with her, who was called barren.
